You Don’t Have to Walk This Road Alone
When someone you love is incarcerated, it can feel isolating — like no one around you truly understands what your family is going through. The truth is, thousands of Kentucky families are walking the same road. Lives on Mission Ministries (LOM) believes that when those families find each other, something powerful happens.
That’s why we’re building a statewide network of community support groups — one county at a time — right here in Kentucky.
What Is a Kentucky Strong Families Support Group?
A Kentucky Strong Families support group is a safe, welcoming space where families of the incarcerated come together regularly to:
- Navigate the justice system — understand your rights, the process, and what to expect at every stage
- Advocate for your incarcerated family member — learn when and how to advocate for their needs and wellbeing behind bars.
- Practice self-care — learn practical ways to protect your own mental, emotional, and physical health
- Care for your family — get tools and strategies for supporting children, spouses, parents, and others affected at home
- Support your incarcerated loved one — discover meaningful ways to stay connected and encourage their growth
- Share the burden — speak freely with people who genuinely understand, without fear of judgment
- Lighten the load — Discover new ways and available resources that make the journey more manageable
- Hear from experts — connect with professionals in legal navigation, mental health, reentry, faith, and more
- Get your questions answered — no question is too small, and no one is alone in asking it
More than anything, a support group creates community — and community brings healing in itself. There is something deeply powerful about being heard by someone who has walked where you are walking.
Rooted in Real Experience
Lives on Mission Ministries doesn’t come to this work as a stranger. LOM’s board of directors have years of hands-on experience leading Bluegrass Families of the Incarcerated in relationship with Lexington Rescue Mission — walking alongside families through some of their most difficult seasons.
That experience shapes everything we bring to each new group: the training, the materials, the empathy, and the wisdom of knowing what families truly need.
Could You Lead a Group in Your Community?
You don’t have to be a counselor or a professional to make a difference. You just need a heart for your community and a willingness to show up.
LOM will provide:
- Full facilitator training
- Key materials and resources to lead with confidence
- Ongoing support from the LOM team
- Connection to the broader Kentucky Strong Families network, as it grows
We’re looking for individuals — especially family members of the incarcerated — who want to turn their own experience into purpose. If you’ve ever thought, “I wish something like this existed when I needed it,” this may be your moment to make sure it exists for someone else.
